(t)here Magazine is dedicated to creating content that is neither edited or editorialized. It is a museum book that provides a free flow of original artistic content from beginning to end. Each annual issue hosts 12 selected artists in a featured city. Each artist is given a unique challenge, to complete an original work within 24 hours in response to a given subject. The possibilities are open ended and the city is yours to derive your resources and materials.

In 2017, I participated in the (t)here Magazine #onedayofart challenge in Miami. My randomly selected subject was underground. I had 24 hours to source materials and make a work of art. As a result, I repurposed a hotel construction site as my studio. Here I found beauty in underground material; a leftover bucket of tar, a can of gasoline, palm fronds, snail shells, and piles of unearthed sandy soil, stretched over a wooden pallet. In a central location on the site, I took photographs of my “earthwork” installation as a storm rolled in. The photograph of the installation was selected for the cover.
